| ***UPDATE*** We are happy to announce that the county has given us a two month extentionwhich gives us somewhat of a breather so we can focus on getting past this surgery. We will still need to file a "variance" to cover at least a 2 year time frame for her recovery. Please continue to sign and pass on
the link to those who understand how much a horse like this can win your heart.
The Situation
Just recently we were “slapped” with a notice from code enforcement regarding having a horse here, and not having the “required” one acre as per county code. First of all, we were misinformed as to the “correct” amount of property we did have, and honestly thought we had almost two acres. That is not the case however.
If I had known there was less then an acre here, I would have not taken on the responsibility of rescueing Sugar, our official mascot for Rock~N~Rescue. Sugar was born with a birth defect that makes her front hooves curl underneath her. She is a “special needs” animal, that will require surgery to correct the defect, and give her a new life without pain…or at least not nearly as much.
After surgery, she will need to learn all over how to walk again, and will require constant vet care for at least a few months or longer. She cannot be allowed to run alot and will need to be in a smaller area while she gets her “new legs” to work the right way.
For the record, this horse and all of her needs have been provided for by my family, The Brooks’. They have been the only ones I could count on to help this horse, who would have probably been dead by now. No money has ever been given to me by the county, or via grants to take on this responsibility. This horse has also been a complete form of therapy for my 10 year old nephew who is mildly autistic, who after not “talking” to anyone at school the entire school year, began “vocalizing” and can now be re-evaluated because of it. He and Sugar have a VERY “special bond” and we will do whatever we must so noone can take her away from her “for-ever home” which is HERE…or from her “for-ever family” which is us! All of the neighbors love her, bring her treats from time to time and I know without a doubt, it was none of them who made the “complaint”.
We are actively searching for people with property nearby that would allow us to perhaps lease with option, at least enough to pacify the county's code requirements. In the meantime, the surgery for Sugar cannot be delayed any longer. She CANNOT go through this, only to be left alone in a huge field somewhere out of view from our eyes. She will need to be restricted, so therefore we are asking the public to Sign our Petition to let Sugar Stay Home.
